What kind of people take the test?
Many different people take the test, including those who are attending courses specialized in culinary arts and individuals who are studying while working at a restaurant. "The Japanese Culinary Academy's Complete Japanese Cuisine" series of books are the standard textbooks for the Japanese Culinary Academy Certification, and as a rule, problems are taken from the content of this series. Problems on the Fundamental Certification test are based on the content of "Introduction to Japanese Cuisine: Nature, History and Culture". This book is designed to give fundamental knowledge of Japanese cuisine, accompanied by photographs and detailed explanations. Please take advantage of this book. Is it absolutely necessary to take the Fundamental Certification test?
Yes. Fundamental Certification test problems include knowledge concerning the history and spirit of Japanese cuisine, which should be understood and mastered by everyone involved in the field. Registering a passing grade qualifies the applicant for the next step, taking advanced level tests.
I want to take the Fundamental Certification test for the first time. How can I take the test?
You can take the test once you have created an account.
If you have not yet created an account, first go to "Create an account" on the menu, enter the necessary information, create an account, and sign in.
You will now be able to take the test.

Account Creation Process

  1. Enter your email address and a password in the form, then submit.
  2. An email explaining how to finish creating your account will be sent to the email address that you have registered.
    *Please finish account creation within 30 minutes of receiving this email.
  3. Click on the "Complete Account Creation" link in the email.
  4. Account creation is now complete.
How can I retake the test?
You can only take the Fundamental Certification test once per day. Please take the test again from the following day onwards.
＊Applicants who fail may not take the test again on the same day.

Procedure for Retesting

  1. Click the "Sign In" button.
  2. Enter your account email address and password in the designated fields on the page.
  3. Click the "Sign In" button and take the test again.
How will passing the test prove useful in my career or in my job search?
The Japanese Culinary Academy Certification Association strives to produce a certification recognized both in Japan and abroad which shows that certified individuals have been evaluated as skilled professionals at restaurants, and have obtained knowledge and skills advantageous for job hunting activities.

You can take the test once per day on this website.
How can I get a passing certificate issued?
Applicants who have passed the Fundamental Certification test can register to have an electronic certificate issued.
Applicants who have passed the test can press the "issue passing certificate" button on the homepage, then pay the issuance fee using the external payment service.
If you need a physical copy of the passing certificate (test certificate) in addition to an electronic passing certificate, please contact the secretariat by email.
