The Japanese Culinary Academy
Certification Process

The Japanese Culinary Academy Certification evaluates Japanese culinary proficiency in terms of both knowledge and skill, and certifies those who have passed as possessing competency in Japanese culinary techniques.

The Japanese Culinary Academy Certification test can be taken online.
Please follow the procedure below to take the test.

  • STEP 1Create an account and sign in

    You must create an account (free of charge) to take the certification test.
    If you have not yet created an account, please refer to the "Account Creation Process" below and then create an account from "Create an account" on the menu. After creating an account, please log in with your registered email address and password to take the certification test.

    Account Creation Process

    1. Enter your email address and a password in the form, then submit.
    2. An email explaining how to finish creating your account will be sent to the email address that you have registered.
      *Please finish account creation within 30 minutes of receiving this email.
    3. Click on the "URL to complete account creation" in the email.
    4. Account creation is now complete.
  • STEP 2Take the Test

    Fundamental Certification
    Advanced Certification: Test on "Flavor and Seasonings: Dashi, Umami, and Fermented Foods"

    Test questions are in true or false (〇 or ×) format. Take the test on this website.
    Time Limit: 20 minutes
    Questions: 40
    Test scores of 80% or higher are recognized as a passing grade.

    *Applicants who fail may not take the test again on the same day.
     Please take the test again from the following day onwards.

    Procedure for Retesting

    1. Click the "Sign In" button.
    2. Enter your account email address and password in the designated fields on the page.
    3. Click the "Sign In" button and take the test again.
  • STEP 3Test Results

    The test results will be displayed immediately after the test is completed.

  • STEP 4Registering a Passing Grade

    Passing Grade Registration Fee (electronic certificate will be issued)
    Passing Grade Registration: ¥3,000 + consumption tax
    →Passing Grade Registration Fee if registered now: ¥1,000 + consumption tax

    *Discounts on passing grade registration fee are subject to end without notice.

    Applicants who have passed the test can register their passing grade. Once they have registered, they will be issued an electronic certificate.
    Applicants must register a passing grade for the Fundamental Certification in order to take the Advanced Certification test.
    After registering a passing grade, click the "Check Electronic Certificate" button on "My Page" to see the electronic certificate.

    If a Separate Physical or Digital Copy of the Passing Certificate is Needed

    Applicants who wish to receive a separate copy of their certificate—a ""Passing Certificate (test certificate)""—in addition to the electronic certificate should apply for it when registering their passing grade.
    Please note that there is a separate fee of ¥1,000 for the issuance of a Passing Certificate (test certificate). Those residing in Japan will have consumption tax added to this amount.
    A physical version of the Passing Certificate (test certificate) will be sent to the registered address of those residing in Japan. Physical certificates cannot be sent outside of Japan.
    Applicants who reside outside of Japan will have the Passing Certificate (test certificate) sent to their registered email as a PDF file.

    Other Advanced Certifications
    Advanced Certifications other than "Flavor and Seasonings: Dashi, Umami, and Fermented Foods" will begin after preparations are complete.
